The Spines of the Thorny Devil are a Structural Adaptation. The spines make it harder for its predator e.g. brown falcon to capture and swallow.
The Thorny Devil's spines are also used to obtain water. The Thorny Devil will rub against the spinifex grass where there is dew and the drops run through the array of spines like channels leading directly to the Thorny Devil's mouth.
