Migration

The humpback whale has an incredible migration journey of 10,000km. They travel up along Eastern seaboard of Australia passing Cape Byron. They survive on the fat reserve stored inside them.· They are on their way to breeding and birthing grounds in sub-tropical waters off the Great Barrier Reef because the calves would not survive in the freazing waters of the Artic Ocean.

The humpback whale is a mammal. It is one of the larger species of whales. They can grow up to 15-16m. A healthy adult weighs approximately 36000kg. It has a stocky body, a long pectoral fin and a knobbly head . They also have a hump on their backs hence the name- Hump Back Whale.
